Trusted Local Locksmiths, Day or Night
Licensed & Insured • 24/7 Emergency Lockouts • Upfront Pricing
When it’s fifteen below and your deadbolt won’t turn, Minneapolis winters stop being charming. Frozen cylinders, keys snapped off in brittle brass, and 1920s mortise locks on Longfellow and Powderhorn bungalows that have never been serviced — that’s our daily work. We rekey, repair, and upgrade locks across Uptown, Northeast, Linden Hills, and the North Loop, and we answer lockout calls year-round, including the January nights when a frozen lock strands you on your own front steps off Hennepin Avenue.

Questions & Answers
Often, yes. Moisture inside the cylinder is what freezes, so we clean out old grease, re-lubricate with a low-temperature graphite-based product, and check the weatherstripping that lets damp air reach the lock. For chronic offenders we install cylinders that tolerate hard freezes far better.
That is a specialty of ours — much of south Minneapolis housing stock still runs on original mortise hardware. We can rebuild and rekey the existing lockset to preserve the vintage look, or fit a modern deadbolt above it for real security without butchering the door.
We do. Beyond Minneapolis proper we regularly run calls to St. Paul, Richfield, Edina, and St. Louis Park along I-94, I-35W, and Highway 100. Winter weather can stretch drive times, so we quote an honest ETA that accounts for road conditions.
Response time depends on where you are and the time of day, but lockouts are prioritized ahead of scheduled work. When you call, the dispatcher gives you a realistic arrival window and a confirmed price — if either changes, you hear it from us before the technician is en route, not after.
Almost never. Trained locksmiths open the vast majority of residential and vehicle locks with picks and bypass tools that leave the lock working exactly as before. Drilling is reserved for rare high-security or failed cylinders, and we always explain and get your OK first — a drilled lock must be replaced.
Rekeying changes the pins inside your existing lock so it works with a new key; the hardware stays on the door. Replacing swaps the entire lock. Rekeying is cheaper and is the right call when the hardware is in good shape — replacement makes sense when locks are worn, damaged, or you want an upgrade like a smart lock.
Yes, and you should be glad we ask. Before opening or making keys we verify identity and your right to access — a driver’s license, lease, utility bill, or vehicle registration usually does it. A locksmith who skips this step should worry you.
For most makes, yes. We can generate a key from the vehicle’s lock code and program the transponder chip on-site, even when every key is lost. A few exotic and very new models are dealer-only; tell us the year, make, and model when you call and we will confirm before dispatching.
